In June of 2020, I started a social media fundraiser to raise over $3400 in donations for the The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, a non-profit strategy and action center based in Oakland. Additional donations were also raised for People’s Breakfast Oakland, a Black grassroots political organization dedicated to serving Oakland’s houseless population. Throughout the month of June, I rendered digital portraits of people including Jenny Odell, author of New York Times Bestseller How To Do Nothing, and digital marketer Chris Cloud. In return, I collected donations which I was able to get matched by tech companies to then donate double the initial amount. Below are the 25 portraits that I completed during the fundraiser.
